Couple New Pieces

I'm exploring some new imagery to work with. I keep coming back to the birds as a default, but I am slowly branching outwards also. I have realized that a series of bug studies could look very cool, particularly because they are visually interesting and complex but also because I think I can have some fun with the paint applications on them, and make the colours somewhat non representational and very bright and colourful. Note however that this new bird piece is a hawk and not a crow, there's something about drawing eyes and beaks that gets me every time :)

Messing Around

It's been some time since I posted! I had been working furiously preparing for Christmas shows. After they were over (and successful!) I needed some much deserved time off. Plus, the holidays happened.

Now, I spent a bit of time messing around with experiments for surfaces, new subject matter, etc.

Here are some surfaces I've messed around with. I'm not sure yet if they will all turn into pieces but I like the idea of working into primed surfaces that only cover PART of the canvas. In one instance, I've primed a section on top of an old piece, allowing the background to show through. Another instance, which is created on four 12x12 canvases, I've primed parts of the canvases and left the umprimed surface in other parts. I will be working onto this piece soon, I'm excited to see how it works out! (or not).
